Syllabus

At present we have arrangements to teach Urdu through Hindi and English. The learners are expected to read, write and understand Urdu after having completed this course.

Stage - I

The lessons for learning Urdu have been arranged in a book entitled URDU SCRIPT THROUGH ENGLISH with easy and simple instructions. After receiving the admission form duly completed alongwith the required postal order, the student will get the First book, URDU SCRIPT THROUGH ENGLISH. The student can learn the text upto page 15 himself, or with the help of someone who knows Urdu. Learning to write Urdu is necessary alongwith its reading. After learning upto page 15 the Head should be informed of the time spent in learning these pages. The student should also inform the Head about all the difficulties which he came across while learning the script. Thereafter the student should study the book following instructions supplied alongwith the book. He will have to send written assignments according to instructions to the Head, who will make an assessment of his progress. Further instructions for improvement will be sent, if necessary. After receiving all the assignments, final evaluation will be made, and if the work is found satisfactory, the second book will be sent.

Stage - II

The student, after having finished the first book, will receive the second book. The second book consists of simple stories, poems, letters of various kinds, and instructions regarding forms of composition, and applications. The student should keep on sending assignments according to instructions supplied alongwith the book. After having finished the second book, he/she should write a letter to the Head in URDU, expressing his views about the lessons of the second book. His/her letter will be indicative of the level of his/her achievement. On receiving all assignment and the letter, if the work is found satisfactory, the next book will be sent.

Stage - III

After having covered the second stage satisfactorily, the student will get the third book which contains short stories and poems by classical aand modern writers. At this stage the students are advised to buy a short Urdu Dictionary which will help him in finding out the meanings of unfamiliar words. The student should keep on sending assignments according to instructions supplied alongwith the book. After having completed the study of the third book, the student is required to send two Final Assignments in Urdu (one from any prose lessons, and one from any poetry lessons) alongwith a letter in Urdu giving his impressions about the Course. The Final Assignment will be considered for awarding the certificate for completing the Urdu Correspondence Course of Jamia Millia Islamia.
