Mr. Junaid Haris is a Senior Faculty member in the Department of Islamic Studies at Jamia Millia Islamia, where he has been teaching since 2000. He received his traditional Islamic education from several renowned madrasas in India, earning the degree of Aalim–Faazil. In addition to his classical training, he has pursued higher education at prominent institutions including Lucknow University, Magadh University, Jamia Millia Islamia, and Jawaharlal Nehru University, reflecting a strong engagement with both traditional and modern academic frameworks.
His primary areas of scholarship include Islamic thought grounded in foundational sources and the study of Indian religions. Over the years, he has delivered lectures on a wide range of subjects, including Islam, Indian religions, interfaith dialogue, education, women’s rights in Islam, Seerat-e-Rasool (the life of the Prophet), and contemporary issues from an Islamic perspective such as family planning, vaccination, HIV/AIDS, noise pollution, and maternal and child health. He is frequently invited to contribute to discussions on national television, offering insights rooted in constitutional values and ethical frameworks.
Mr. Haris has delivered lectures at numerous academic and cultural institutions in India and abroad. He has provided consultancy services to several national and international organizations, including WHO, UNICEF, CARE, the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), World Vision, UHI, SPIC MACAY, SARD, and the Sehgal Foundation. He serves as the editor of the monthly Urdu magazine Payam-e-Tauheed.
He served as Project Director for an interfaith coexistence initiative funded by the British High Commission. He has also contributed extensively to interfaith dialogue initiatives supported by the Norwegian Embassy in India, as well as by various national and international organizations.
He has presented research papers at numerous national and international conferences. Among his notable contributions is the development of a multilingual web-based application on Hajj that is widely used internationally. Following extensive research, he also scripted the text for a film on Hajj commissioned by the Haj Committee of India.
