Prof (Dr) M Rahmatullah is currently serving as Professor at AJK Mass Communication Research Centre (AJK-MCRC), Jamia Millia Islamia, a Central University in New Delhi. Professor Rahmatullah brings over three decades of rich professional, academic, and administrative experience. He contributes actively to academia as a Visiting Faculty at the Delhi School of Journalism, University of Delhi, and as a Visiting Professor at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India. He also served as Consulting Editor (Editorial & Administrative Head) with Doordarshan News, New Delhi, from April 2013 to January 2021, during which he covered several high-profile national and international events, including those involving Presidents and Prime Ministers of India.

With over three decades of rich and diverse experience spanning professional, academic, and administrative domains, Prof Rahmatullah specializes in Journalism in all its dimensions. He has authored five published books, with two more currently under publication, and has contributed more than 25 research-based articles to reputed journals, magazines, and newspapers. His academic engagement includes presenting papers at nine international and twenty-five national conferences, along with organizing five national and two international seminars.

He also holds key institutional and intellectual positions, serving as Chairman of the National Urdu Library in Reorha, Darbhanga (Bihar), and as General Secretary of Sahyog Vision India, New Delhi, a prominent think tank. He is an active member of several prestigious professional bodies, including the India International Centre (IIC), India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC), Press Club of India, Press Association of India, and the Press Advisory Committee of the Bihar Legislative Council.

His contributions have been widely recognized through several awards and honours. Notable among them are the Education & Art Award (2025) by the Foundation for Krishna Kala & Education Association, the honour by Bharti Shramjivi Patrakar Sangh (2025), the Media Award from Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (2019), the Visiting Research Fellowship from the Government of Azerbaijan (2017), the Loknayak JP International Award (2017), and the ‘Media Maharathi’ recognition by exchange4media (2013).

Prof Rahmatullah’s professional journey in electronic media includes leadership roles such as Channel Head at Channel One News (24x7), Noida (2010–2013), where he also produced and anchored over 100 special programmes. Prior to that, he served as News Coordinator and Senior Producer at Sahara TV, Senior Correspondent with ANI, and held editorial and reporting positions with ETV and Doordarshan Kendra, Patna. His career in print media began with roles as Chief Reporter and Feature Editor at The Qaumi Tanzeem, along with earlier reporting assignments at Sandhya Prahari. He has also contributed to leading publications such as The Hindustan Times (Patna edition), Aryavart, and Sangam.

In the academic sphere, he has served as Visiting Faculty and External Examiner at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi, and as an observer and examiner for institutions such as Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication Bhopal, NCPUL (Ministry of Higher Education, Government of India), and IGNOU. He has also worked as an Academic Counsellor and Research Associate for radio counselling programmes, IGNOU.

His international exposure includes visits to Kuwait, Iraq, Dubai, Nepal, and Azerbaijan. Academically, he holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communication & English Literature and a PhD, reflecting his strong foundation in both practice and research.
