   CURRICULUM

 

   The curriculum is an outcome of extensive discussion among the

   faculty members from leading institutions like IITs, NITs and the industrial

   sector etc. The upgradation and improvement of the syllabus is also a

   continuous process.

 

   Some of the salient features include software tools like ETAP (Electrical Transients   

   Analyzer Program), C, C++, MATLAB, ABB DCS System (AC800F Processor) with all

   Accessories for Industrial Automation and Equipment for Energy Audit.

 

   ONGOING COURSES INCLUDE:

 

1.)    Power System Instrumentation, Control and Telemetry: dealing basically with signals and signal conditioning and transmission, multiplexing schemes, study of filters, transducers, and various controllers.

 

2.)   SCADA Systems: It gives a deeper idea about components of control systems, SCADA systems, types of control systems, PLC, components of SCADA Systems, communication media, interfaces and security; SCADA in power systems, Regional Grid and DCS based SCADA systems.

 

3.)    Distribution Planning and Automation: deals basically with utility distribution system design, regulation, power quality issues, distribution automation, DMS, design, construction and commissioning of substations, Substation Automation and Equipment condition monitoring.

 

4.)    Energy Management Systems: covering factors affecting power system security, contingency analysis, power system state estimation, state estimation by orthogonal decomposition, network absorbability, optimal power flow.

 

5.)    *Intelligent methods in power system: covers a basic idea about Artificial Neural Networks, Fuzzy Logic, their applications in power systems, Genetic

      algorithms, Wavelet theory and its application to power system.

 

 6.) *Digital Protection: incorporates computer relaying, its architecture,

      transmission line and transformer relaying, power transformer relaying,

     distribution over current protecion, its hardware organization in integrated systems

     and recent developments in relaying principles and fault location algorithms.

 

7.) *Re-structuring and De-regulation of power systems: This course peeps into the

     way to how new technology will allow us to change today’s highly regulated market

     structure to one that relies on competition to set the energy price. It also includes

     experience from various countries, change in distribution business in a

     de-regulated market, transmission expansion, wholesale electricity markets and

     asset management.

 

     8.) *Digital Communication: integrates into it some elements of information theory,

           Huffman coding, Channel capacity theorem, practical aspects of sampling and

           signal recovery, TDM, PCM, DPCM and PAM, Digital modulation techniques,

           error control codes, Spread spectrum codes, packet switching and multiple

           access communication.

 

      9.) Power System Analysis: which broadly covers the study on network matrices,  

           fault analysis, short circuit studies, load flow studies, economic load dispatch  

           optimum generation scheduling and security analysis in power system.

 

    10.) *Power System Optimization: covers formulation of optimization problems, 

           linear and non-linear programming, minimization techniques and optimal power  

           flow.

 

    11.) Integrated Energy Systems: includes contribution of various sources of 

           energy and fuel consumption, conventional energy sources as alternate energy 

           sources, project of energy demands, hybrid and integrated energy systems and

           modern technological options.

 

12.) Energy Conservation: takes into account thermodynamics, energy conservation

       through controls, predictive and preventive maintenances, thermal insulation and

       energy auditing and case studies.
