Presently Prof. Najma Amin is Head, Deptt. of Educational Studies. She was awarded Junior Research Fellowship by NCERT and joined the Deptt. of Educational Psychology and Foundation of Education (DEPFE), NCERT in July, 1975. She got the opportunity to work in one of the NCERT’S major research projects ‘Development of Science and Mathematics Concepts Among Children.’
In January 1981 she joined Jamia Millia Islamia as lecturer, the erstwhile Deptt. of Foundation of Education (presently, Deptt. of Educational Studies) which was bifurcated in December 1980. She actively participated in the process of the expansion of the department through designing and structuring M.Phil, M.A. (Educational Planning & Administration), M.Ed. (Elementary Education) and Ph.D programmes.
She has been provost of Girls Hostel for more than 7 years. For improving the life of residents, various initiatives were taken to streamline Girls Hostel. As Hony. Director of Jamia Self Financing School she has been instrumental in bringing reform in admission and examination. Several times she has been officiating Head and Officiating Dean of the Faculty of Education.
She has been Chairman Admission of Jamia Self Financing School, and Mushir Fatima Nursery School, member of the Discipline and inquiry committees etc. She is also associated as member of Programme Advisory Committee, G.P. Day Care Centre of Jamia.
As Manager of Anglo Arabic Model School for four years, she took initiatives to develop and streamline the curriculum and physical infrastructure, and constituted School Management Committee for the recognition of school.
She has been associated to the prestigious decision making bodies of NCTE, NCERT, SCERT, DELHI, ICSSR, DRDO, UGC, DIETs etc. She is associated to several universities as examiner, and expert of the selection committees.
She has delivered several lectures on psychology of students stress and conflict management, nurturing success among children in the in-service programmes organized for college and school principals, university teachers, university administrators, Judicial Magistrate etc. in Jamia Millia Islamia, NIEPA, SCERT, DIETs, Ministry of Home Affairs etc. Her work on rearing of the children, education of muslim girls and assessment of cognitive abilities have been published in the form of articles and books.
She is the member of Editorial Board of the ‘Journal of Reflection in School Education’ SCERT New Delhi. She is the member of the Governing Council, Institute of Objective Studies, Delhi and Jamia Anjuman(Court).
Her current interests are in the area of mental health, spiritual intelligence, personal counseling and positive psychology.
