Prashant Negi is Assistant Professor, Dr. K. R. Narayanan Centre for Dalit and Minorities Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and Managing Trustee, Centre for Development Studies, Shimla. Concurrently, he is also Member, Advisory Editorial Board, Journal of Dalit Studies, Dignity Initiative, Nepal; Founding Member, Himachal Forum (an interdisciplinary, interuniversity-academia and civil society research initiative), Member, Core Coordination Committee India Chapter, Heidelberg Alumni South Asia, India and Editor, Issue Briefs, Dr. K. R. Narayanan Centre for Dalit and Minorities Studies.

A sociologist by training, he specializes on theoretical approaches to social exclusion, development theory, challenges of transformation and change, and topical issues pertaining to marginality, affirmative action and deprivation. He is particularly interested in the psychology of discrimination and exclusion and the pedagogy of oppression and in the construction of social policies.

A recipient of the prestigious Baden Wurttemberg Professorial Fellowship, Heidelberg University, Negi was educated at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and Modern School, New Delhi.

He was previously Joint Director (Administration) and Appellate Authority (RTI), Centre for Open and Distance Learning, Jamia Millia Islamia, Editor and Associate Fellow, Indian Institute of Dalit Studies, New Delhi and Lecturer in Sociology.

He has published extensively on the affirmative action, caste and social exclusion.
