The Department of Electrical Engineering offers Ph.D.  programmes in four major areas namely-
1)   Power Systems:
SCADA, Utility Automation and IEC61850, Renewable Energy and its integration,  Microgrid, Smart grid Technologies, Power systems Communication, Substation Automation, FACTS Controllers, Wide Area Measurement Systems, Deregulation, Energy planning, Protection, Optimization, load Forecasting, Automatic generation control, Intelligent and soft computing techniques for power systems, power quality, Distribution systems, Disaster management etc..
2)   Machines, Drives and power Electronics:
Power quality improvement and controllers, Eddy current breaking system, Harmonics reduction, Active power filters, Maximum power point tracking systems, Hybrid Systems, Converters for renewable energy systems, Performance analysis of machines.  Renewable Energy Systems, Hybrid and Electric Vehicle; Power Quality; Electronic Control system for Artificial Lighting, Electric Traction, Wireless Power Transfer. Speed control of Electric Machines. Operation and Control (Analog and Digital Control) of Power Electronics Converter.
3)   Control and Instrumentation:
Soft Computing Techniques, Condition Monitoring, Development of Thin Film Sensors (capacitive, resistive, surface acoustic wave, optical, constant phase impedance, etc) for humidity, organic vapors, toxic gas, temperature etc, Sensor Array for E-Nose, Interface Electronics for the Sensors, Signal Conditioning, Microcontrollers Applications, Neuro-Fuzzy control, Robotics, Numerical Methods in control, Optimal Control, Intelligent Control, Adaptive control systems, Networked Control systems, Autonomous mobile agents, Smart metering, Measurements, Dissolved gas Analysis.
4)   Electronics, Communication and Computer Technology:
Soft computing techniques, Biometrics, Wireless Networks, Transmission protocols, Digital signal processing, Image Processing and Computer Vision, Network-on-Chip, Broadband communication, Fuzzy Logic and its variants, Biomedical Engineering:Biomedical Electronics, Biomedical Instrumentation, Bio‚Äźsensors, Medical Robotics,  Bioinformatics, Bio-MEMS, Human-Device Interfaces.
