Jamia Millia Islamia, established in 1920, is a renowned Central University which comes with a glorious past. In February 2020, JMI completed its 100 years of existence. It has more than 18000 students, 700 full-time faculty members, 9 faculties, 45 departments, and more than 200 courses. We make into a large institution that has set up its unparalleled benchmarks in every discipline, be it Computer Science, Biosciences, Physics, Chemistry, Law, Dentistry, Engineering, Humanities, Languages, and Mass communication, etc. and very soon Medicine also in the coming years.
We ranked 1st among all central universities in India - in the rankings released by the Ministry of Education in 2020, and acclaimed 10th national rank among Indian universities in the ranking released by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), MHRD, GoI on June 11, 2020. JMI made it to the list of top institutions worldwide for Computer Science for the first time placed at 195 in Times Higher Education (THE) rankings Emerging Economies University Rankings 2021. The Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings 2021 includes only institutions in countries classified by the London Stock Exchange’s FTSE Group as “advanced emerging”, “secondary emerging” or “frontier”. It has been ranked at 180th position by the London-based Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings- 2021, with a remarkable jump of 18 positions from last year. We are centrally located in the heart of Delhi, and through our national-level selection procedure, we have been successful in attracting the best minds from the country.
The Department of Computer Science is one of the youngest departments of the Faculty of Natural Sciences. It was established in 1999 with a vision to train and develop highly skilled human resources in the field of Computers. Department holds M.C.A. (Master of Computer Applications), PGDCA, M.Sc. (Bioinformatics), and Ph.D. programs, to produce IT professionals, and quality researchers in several diverse branches of Computer Science. Department with the current faculty strength of eight Professors, two Associate Professors, and two Assistant Professors sufficiently cater to its requisite teaching and research requirements. Moreover, as part of the subject association and placement activities, resource persons from industry and institutions of repute like IIT Delhi, DU, JNU, and AIIMS are regularly invited to further groom students.
MCA was originally a 3-Year (6 Semesters) academic program of professional nature. This programme is recently updated to be of two years duration, as a result we have two batches (2-year and 3-year MCA) graduating in the year 2022. MCA curriculum is regularly updated every 3 years to include the most recent and demanding skills to increase the quality of its contribution to the industry. Our students have excelled in a multitude of fields like Java, .Net, Big Data, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Artificial Intelligence, Networking and Security, Python, MATLAB, and Web Development (J2EE/ASP.Net), etc. Apart from the curriculum, the students participate in a number of Hackathons and Techfests to hone their skills.
A significant number of alumni of the department are serving as Data Scientists, Software Engineers, IT consultants, Full stack developers, iOS/Android developers, etc. in reputed organizations. A large number of them have proven their entrepreneurship skills and many others are working as NET-JRF scholars, faculty members, and consultants in reputed institutes around the globe.
Various national and multinational companies have been consistently recruiting our students through campus recruitments and a large number of our students are placed in public and private sectors in India and abroad.
