A National Seminar on 'Little Known Fighters against the Raj. Figures from Meghalaya' was held on March 7 at the Indo-Arab centre in Jamia
Millia Islamia. Senior scholars and reseachers from North East Hill University, Shillong, presented papers on various issues as part of a collaboration with CNES. Vice Chancellor Najeeb Jung, IAS, inaugurated the seminar while Ms. Jayati Chandra, IAS, secretary Ministry of
Development for Northeastern Region and Prof Tiplut Nongbri delivered closing remarks. The seminar focused on a range of 'freedom fighters'
and those who struggled for the rights of people in the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo hills of today's Meghalaya against the Briritsh in the 19th
and 20th centuries. Prof. R. Gopinath and Prof. Sharma of the Dept of History at Jamia chaired sessions.

Prof sanjoy Hazarika was interviewed today (March 14) by the BBC for a programme on Nagaland and the issues of conflict and alienation there.
