Dr. Shahid Tasleem is working as permanent faculty at the Academy of International Studies (AIS), Jamia Millia Islamia (A Central University), New Delhi. A linguist by training, Dr. Tasleem has about twenty-two years of extensive experience in the field of teaching, mainly Uzbek language and literature. His knowledge of Indian and Uzbek languages is grounded in his sociological and linguistic study of these two societies. He has obtained his M.Phil. and Ph. D degrees from the University of Delhi. He visited Uzbekistan for the first time in 1997 as a Reader at the Department of South Asian Language, Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, Uzbekistan where he also taught two Indian languages, Hindi and Urdu. During the past two decades, he has visited Uzbekistan several times for academic purposes. Often having spent a longer period in Uzbekistan and interacting with native Uzbeks (especially academicians, researchers and students) Dr. Tasleem has immersed with Uzbek language and has a thorough grip over basic linguistic etiquette.

Dr. Tasleem joined AIS, Jamia Millia Islamia in 2004 as a fulltime and founding faculty to teach Uzbek language and literature. The centre for the study of Uzbek language and literature located in the AIS is the only public institution in India and Dr. Tasleem is the lone experienced teacher of Uzbek language in India. During this long journey of learning, teaching and experience, he has trained a good number of students with expertise at the certificate and diploma levels. A large number of successful students taught by Dr. Tasleem have got attractive employment in different professional activities including in the health tourism sector and thereby rendering their services to the cause of social service and humanity. His students are considered as ambassadors representing two streams of language and culture and thereby bridging the gap between India and Uzbekistan.

Dr. Tasleem writes on various aspect of language and literature. His articles and reviews are published in various journals. He also presented several papers in the national and international seminars. He is the author of 11 books.
