Press Release: SA Rahim Memorial Football Tournament to begin at Jamia

The Games & Sports Office of Jamia Millia Islamia is going to organize an Inter College Football Tournament called the SA Rahim Memorial Football Tournament from February 6-16, 2012 in memory of legendary Football Coach Late SA Rahim. He had been the national coach from 1950-62.

Late SA Rahim was born on August 17, 1909. He was the greatest player of Hyderabad from twenties to early forties of the last century. He served as National Referee at Kolkata and other places in India, Colombo, Sri Lanka apart from refereeing at Hyderabad.

He produced more than one dozen FIFA Referees and dozens of National Referees.

India won various Gold Medals on National and international levels during the period of his services as Coach to the Football Team. India won 1951 and 1962 Asian games Gold Medal under his able guidance apart from earning other laurels.

He retired as Principal of a High School and had been associated with Football from 1943 till his death on June 11, 1963.

He has innumerable fans in India and abroad. He is lovingly referred to as Baba-I-Football.

The inauguration of the SA Rahim Memorial Football Tournament will be held on 6^th February, 2012 at 1.30 PM in the Jamia Sports Complex (Bhopal Grounds), Jamia Millia Islamia.

Mr. Desh Deepak Verma, Director General Sports Authority of India will be the Chief Guest on the occasion. Mr. Najeeb Jung, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia islamia will preside over the inaugural function.

3 matches will be played on the inaugural day. The first match will start at 1.30 PM.
