Press Release: Anita Singhvi to perform at Jamia
 
Jamia Millia Islamia is going to organize a performance of ‘Selected Ghazals & Sufiana Kalam’ by Smt. Anita Singhvi.
 
Anita Singhvi is an exceptionally gifted Ghazal and Sufi Singer. Her passionate belief in the strength of traditional music makes her a crusader for her scintillating repertoire of music ranging from Ghazals to Dadra & Sufiana Kalams.
Anita Singhvi commenced her musical journey under the guidance of Pandit Kshirsagar of Gwalior Gharana at a young age. Trained in Hindustani vocal classical she pursued a Visharad course at Bhatkhande Sangeet Institute, New Delhi. She has taken guidance from Mujahid Hussain Khan Saheb of Rampur Seswan Gharana, Shanti Hiranandji, Anjali Banerjeeji Begum Muneer Khatoon of Allahabad. And also Iqbal Ahmad Khan Sahab Delhi Gharana.
She has given a number of successful concerts both in India and abroad (over 200 including at London, California, Karachi, several countries of the Middle East, Europe, America) and has got rave reviews from music critics.
Her repertoire of Ghazals includes all time greats like Ghalib, Ameer Khusro, Faiz, Momin, Meer, Daag, Sarmad, Fani and Rumi.
Anita Singhvi has 4 music albums to her credit. The first, Naqsh-e-noor, and the second Sada-e-Sufi, were produced by HMV Saregama. The third album Zahe Naseeb has music by Khayyam Saheb and was produced by Big music. The fourth album Tajalli has been produced once again by HMV Saregama and was be released in the month of July’09.
Recipient of several awards including Rajiv Gandhi Rashtriya Ekta Award, Kalptaru Award, Fakr-e-Hind Award by Husn-e-Ara Trust, Bharat Nirman award and many others, she continues to pursue her passion with devotion. She has been honoured by the Mallika-e-Tarranum award in 2007.
Mr. Najeeb Jung, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia will attend the programme along with other members of the university community.
 
The programme is scheduled to be held on February 8, 2012 at 7 PM in Dr. Ansari Auditorium, Jamia Millia Islamia.
