The new Guest House of the university is known as NEHRU HOUSE. This is a modern, two-storied building located a little behind and to the side of the M. A. Ansari Auditorium. Apart from 31 rooms (25 air-conditioned and 6 non-air conditioned), the Nehru House has a sixty seater committee room and a large Dining Hall connected to a spacious lawn. The office of the In Charge, Nehru House, is located on the first floor. Also on the first floor is a visitors’ lounge cum reading room where guests can spend their leisure time. On the second floor is Connectivity – a Cyber Centre with four broadband internet connections, printer, scanner and web-camera for the use of guests residing at Nehru House as well as Jamia’s faculty members.

Till very recently, the Nehru House was a single floor guest house with guest rooms, a committee room, a dining hall and a kitchen. When the campus-wide network was expanded in 2003, the guest house was also included in the network and Internet nodes were provided in each of the rooms, including the committee room. This connectivity was through optical fiber connected to the central network at the FTK Centre for Information Technology which has a 2 Mbps leased line through ERNET and MTNL. Those who have their own laptops, could thus use the Internet/e-mail facility from their own rooms.

Thereafter two more floors were constructed in the Guest House. However, due to technical limitations, internet cabling in the rooms could not be provided. It was therefore decided to put the entire building on wireless connection. This was implemented in the last quarter of 2005. Despite all this, guests sometimes faced the problem as their laptops had to be properly configured or in some cases their laptops were without wireless card. Also, sometimes there was Internet breakdown from ERNET India or from MTNL.

The Vice-Chancellor therefore approved to further strengthen the Internet facility by setting up an Internet Cafe with four 100 mbps Broadband Internet Connection. The MTNL Internet broadband scheme has been implemented in the Cafe with four desktops. The timing of the Cyber Centre will be from 7:30 am in the morning till 4:00 pm in the evening. However, the facility is available to our guests on special request at the Reception. The staff responsible for timings outside those cited above may be contacted (Mr. Tariq or Mr. Shamshad). The Cafe will be supervised by a technically skilled person during these timings. At present Ms. Shahana Tabassum is the personnel in charge of the Cyber Centre. She is duly qualified with a one year Diploma in Computer Application and Multilingual DTP.
