Introduction

In view of the growing need of Physical therapy, one of the fastest growing allied areas of Medical Sciences, the academic council in 2005 approved the proposal to establish a specialized Centre for Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Sciences in Jamia Millia Islamia. Subsequently, this Centre was approved by the UGC under Xth, plan (special grant) for staff, equipment and infrastructure. The Centre endeavors to prepare highly skilled professionals and efficient Physiotherapists with thorough knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of the field in the light of recent developments in Biotechnology and Bio-Medical Sciences. This is particularly important because the employment opportunities of professionally qualified Physiotherapists in India and abroad are tremendous as the demand exceeds supply in addition to the prospect of self employment. Jamia has taken a lead in establishing a Centre, which is first of its kind in a Central University, having recognized the growing importance of this field of allied health Sciences. The Centre is adequately equipped to start the "Bachelors of Physiotherapy" programme in the coming academic session.
